Israel Golani graduated cum laude in Musicology at Tel-Aviv University.
His interest in historical plucked instruments led him to the Renaissance lute and masterclasses with Hopkinson Smith and Nigel North. Subsequently he studied with Fred Jacobs at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam and with Elisabeth Kenny at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he acquired his skills as a theorbo player.
As his graduation project he produced the musical drama "Nisus et Euryalus", written by Domenico Mazzocchi to Virgil's Latin text. This stimulated him to participate in projects of the Flanders Opera, Holland Opera and the Opera Studio Nederland (as a guest coach).
